Subject to validation and approval explained

If you have any questions or need advice about the course you have applied for, please get in touch by completing our online enquiry form

What does "subject to validation and approval" mean?

When a course is "subject to validation and approval" it means the course is still undergoing the final stages of a formal approval process known as validation. This process is carried out by the University's Quality team, alongside academic experts and industry representatives. The goal is to ensure that the course content meets external standards, fulfils student needs, and aligns with the skills required by industry.

Why do you advertise courses that are still undergoing approval?

University College Birmingham aims to make information about upcoming courses available as soon as possible, so students have the chance to explore new opportunities and consider different options.

Although "subject to validation and approval" often refers to new courses, there may be instances where existing programmes have been changed (i.e. modules have been amended to align more closely with industry trends and practices) and these changes must go through the same validation process. Updates to existing programmes are carried out to ensure you're receiving the most up-to-date and relevant education possible.

How will I be informed of the outcomes?

If any changes are made to a degree during the validation process, or in the unlikely event that a course doesn't receive approval, we’ll notify all applicants as soon as possible and support students with any questions they may have.
