If you want to be your own boss and have the desire and passion to build your own business, our Enterprise Hub can help get your idea off the ground. We offer a lots of support for our budding student entrepreneurs, from expert consultations to industry mentoring, workshops and bootcamps.
You're in good company too – Birmingham is the UK's biggest start-up city outside London, while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) employ more than half the national workforce and generate £16 billion annually.

Hub Network: Getting you connected
As part of our Enterprise Hub, the Hub Network is a professional network launched by University College Birmingham's Business School to help nurture partnerships between our student entrepreneurs, academic experts and businesses.
We want to encourage successful collaborations and help our students to develop specialist and transferable skills that can be put into practice.
Businesses can also benefit from having direct access to thought leadership, up-to-date knowledge and new ideas that can be incorporated into live research projects or corporate and marketing research.

Guest speaker spotlight
Our Enterprise Hub equips students and graduates with cutting-edge insights and practical guidance to launch their businesses. Our programme features interactive workshops on essential business functions and exclusive talks led by industry experts from diverse sectors. Recent guest speakers have included:
- Adam Jones, founder and CEO of Cinderella Marketing - Adam delivered a session covering essential topics such as value proposition, branding and defining the ideal customer profile. Students were challenged to create a targeted customer profile for their business ideas and map the customer journey, enhancing their understanding of audience engagement.
- Oxford Innovation Advice - Specialists in designing and delivering business support programmes - Oxford Innovation Advice led two comprehensive sessions focused on the financial aspects of starting a business. The sessions covered investment readiness, financial forecasting, sales projections, pricing strategies and profit analysis, equipping students with essential tools for a solid financial foundation.
- Amina Hussain, founder and director of SME Outsourcing and CEO of the Asian Business Board for the British Heart Foundation - Amina provided an in-depth overview of the tax and legal considerations for new businesses. Her session also included critical insights into anti-money laundering practices and strategies for safeguarding business operations.
Each session offers valuable, real-world insights that support students in building and sustaining successful ventures.
