What is a disability?

The Equality Act 2010 states that a person has a disability if he or she has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. If you have an impairment or condition that can make it difficult for you to undertake study-related tasks like sitting exams, reading, planning and writing assignments, attending classes, taking notes or delivering presentations, then you are likely to be eligible for disability support.

We support students who:

• Have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD
• Have a mental health condition such as depression or an anxiety disorder
• Have an autism spectrum condition
• Are blind or partially sighted
• Are deaf or hard of hearing
• Have a long standing illness or health condition such as asthma, epilepsy or chronic fatigue syndrome
• Have a physical impairment or mobility difficulty
