IN TIMES OF EMERGENCY The Health and Wellbeing team at University College Birmingham is not an emergency service. The Health and Wellbeing team do not operate in the evenings or at weekends. If you don’t feel like you can wait for your allocated appointment and you are worried about your own safety then we would advise you to contact one of the services below straight away: If you feel concerned about the safety of yourself or others, please contact our Safeguarding Manager on 0121 232 4151 , or report your concern on the UCB portal homepage. Please note, the safeguarding office is open Mon-Thurs 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4pm. If you cannot wait until then, please read the ‘Out of Hours Emergency Numbers’ on the portal homepage, or use the listening service/in an emergency numbers below. If you need advice on how to register with a local GP, please speak with the Nurse at UCB or visit the NHS Choices website. In an Emergency To be used if you need immediate medical help – especially if you think you might act on suicidal thoughts, or you’ve harmed yourself and need urgent medical attention. NHS non-emergency service: 111 (when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency) Accident and Emergency (A&E) at your local hospital Emergency Services: 999 Additional Support University College Birmingham also works with Birmingham Healthy Minds who offer confidential advice, support and treatment for people who are aged 16 or over and registered with a GP who is based in the Birmingham area. This free and confidential service is designed to help you deal with personal or academic problems that could be affecting your home life, health or general wellbeing. The SAP service provides a complete support network with unlimited access to a 24/7 confidential counselling helpline that offers expert advice and compassionate guidance, covering a wide range of issues. This includes the option of structured counselling sessions from trained counsellors, over the phone.
