Zoey Harris-Wright
Grabbing the opportunity
Since graduating from University College Birmingham with a first-class honours degree, Zoey’s career has gone from strength to strength. She feels this success is owed not just to her academic achievements, but her decision to grasp everything university life offers with both hands.
While studying, Zoey was voted club captain of the University’s netball society, and in her final year, elected President of the Guild of Students. These roles gave her great early experience in organising events, gaining networking skills, and managing budgets: “Extracurricular activities are so important to your overall development,” she said.
“Getting involved in as much as you can, at whatever level, helps you to form relationships and acquire skills almost as important as your grades.”
The experience of organising sports tours and summer balls, and even hosting royalty on campus, equipped Zoey with the tools for her current job as Senior Tourism Programme Manager for the West Midlands Growth Company, and she was eager to impress on future graduates how positive an impact the university experience can have on your life: “I left with a degree, but I also made friends for life – and even met my future husband!”
“Enjoy and make the most of your time at the University, and remember you’re living in one of the most wonderful, diverse, and vibrant cities in the UK.”
