Developing a taste for success

After graduating in 2016, Sumaiyah secured a food development technologist role with Greencore in Sheffield, creating food for Waitrose, WeightWatchers, Little Dish and Quorn.

She then moved to London and worked for Bakkavor, developing its M&S range, and KFC UK & Ireland, developing products from concept to launch.

Hard work and resilience have paid off and today, Sumaiyah is the food implementation manager for LEON, leading on the development of new dishes for its 70 restaurants.

“The highlight of my time at university and which stands out in my CV is winning the Love Food Hate Waste and the British Frozen Food Federation competition," she said.

"To win any culinary competition, you must practise and be resilient and meticulous.”
