When the Covid-19 pandemic impacted his hospitality career, Samuel decided it was time to pursue his passion for the world of sport.
Following four years working in hotels, Samuel was one of the first students to enrol on University College Birmingham's Football Business Management FdA course.
The football and rugby fan, who currently works part-time as Team Manager for top-tier women's rugby team Wasps Women, has his sights set on further leadership roles in the sports industry.
"My career ambition is to be a general manager or director of a sporting team," he said.
"When Covid hit, I thought I would try and get myself working in sports. I wanted to work in an area I have passion for."
University College Birmingham's Football Business Management foundation degree is delivered in partnership with Birmingham City FC and Shrewsbury Town FC community trusts, giving students the opportunity to work directly with partner clubs in order to gain first-hand experience of the sports sector.
Working with the BCFC Community Trust, Samuel said: "We got to go to the training ground last year for a Q&A session with some of the staff. We also went to a match this year for one of our assignments.
"The course has a small core group, which means you get to know everyone and can get good debates going in lectures," he added. "I would definitely recommend it to others."
