Roland Ozolins

Aviation and Airport Management BA (Hons)

Soaring ambitions take flight

From a young age, Roland harboured a passion for aviation, but was unsure how to make his way in the industry.

“I visited the University College Birmingham website and found this course was the perfect fit. Anyone who loves aviation will find something that resonates with them, and helps them discover their way in the industry,” he said.

Roland admits he was shy as a youngster, and moving to a new country only added to his anxieties. Fortunately, once he arrived in Birmingham, he found all the help he needed.

“University accommodation helps you to make friends, staff assist students that need guidance, and there are plenty of clubs and societies to help you meet people.”

Learning in a different language also posed issues, but Roland was glad he was able to take advantage of CASE.

“I initially struggled with grammar, so scheduled appointments to counter this. They passionately assisted me in adjusting to academic standards.”

Now working as an Operations Controller for a private airline, Roland feels he owes a lot to his university experiences.

“I was the first ever employee at my company to have such a degree. It’s helped me so much in my work.”
