V300 Independent and Supplementary Prescribing for Registered Nurses / Registered Nurse degree apprenticeship

Journey to a medication master's

Nathon's whole college and higher education journey has been with University College Birmingham, from a Level 3 sports coaching and development course that ignited his passion for health right up to a V300 master’s course that will enable him to prescribe medicines safely in his role as a Registered Nurse.

Inbetween, he completed his Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare degree apprenticeship, also available as a FdSc degree, and topped up to a Registered Nurse degree apprenticeship, also available as a BSc (Hons) degree.

Nathon, who made the news aged 19 for saving a man's life in his capacity as a St John volunteer, said it was studying sports therapy as part of his college course that made him think about nursing.

"I continued through an apprentice route for my foundation degree and then my honours degree, supporting me to gain experience within my speciality to complete my health assessment and apply to the V300 course," he said.

"The University has a great platform for interactive learning, with all the skills labs, 1-1 support and the kindness of the lecturers. Up to nursing director level, the team is very well integrated and supports all of the students in the faculty."

Nathon, who would like to go on to study a master's degree in specialist practice, has also tapped into the award-winning support at the University.

"I have received support from my peers and tutors, but also academic support, which is both online and face-to-face, he said. "I sought this support and guidance throughout my studies to ensure my knowledge and expectations was at the expected level.

“Throughout my seven years at the University, I found the support and services to be outstanding. They truly showed me how I could develop myself both professionally and academically. I would say to anyone looking to follow the same path as me to consider this institution as the number one choice for your journey.”
