Giving back after business success
Jen had already built a successful business in personal assistance when she studied for her Events Management FdA.
Her studies made her realise that events planning was where her real interest lay, and the course at University College Birmingham gave her the freedom to be creative, and put her ideas into practice.
“While I was a student, we had to host a charity event for the Prince's Trust, and I was project coordinator," she said. "I contacted lots of local businesses, and put my own stamp on the project. I loved it.”
From there, she rebranded her own business as Jen’s Tailored Events and has worked at weddings, hen parties, and festivals while speaking at colleges and universities, and giving interviews around the country.
Now studying for the BA top-up, she hopes her practical experience will be useful for the next generation of business leaders.
“Having gone back to university aged 33, and built a business, I just want to share those stories with young people," she said. "I'm working on building a hub to offer a framework for young people to learn the skills of money management, entrepreneurship, and positive relationships.”
