Rising to his goals

Jamie left college keen to build his skill set in baking and patisserie, and there was little doubt in his mind as to where would best help him to achieve his goals.

“University College Birmingham was recommended by my college tutors, and I’d heard a lot of positives about the course from others,” he said.

“Since starting, our class has been able to take part in a nationwide bakery competition and I won two awards. It was great to meet people in the industry and have the chance to network.”

While he was drawn by the staff and facilities on offer, the prime location and renowned friendliness of the University sealed the deal, as he tried to strike the right balance between academia and his social life.

“I've made lots of friends on my course and in The Maltings, and done things I never thought I'd have the confidence to do,” he said. “As someone who's always struggled to make friends, I was nervous initially, but everyone is really friendly, and the class atmosphere is great.

“Living in Birmingham is amazing. Moving to a big city was perfect for me as there’s always something to do. I’ll be sad to leave!”
