Catching the travel bug

Harvey has harboured a passion for travel and tourism since school, and the chance to get out into the world of work alongside his academic studies was too good to turn down.

“The range of modules, placement opportunities, and the chance to go on trips each year were all major factors in my decision to study At University College Birmingham," he said.

"Along with the facilities and location, you can’t really ask for more.”

With the assistance of the HIRED team, he was able to secure a placement at a 5-star hotel and resort in Wales, and was even able to spend a semester studying abroad in Sweden.

“HIRED helped me with a lot of advice on the interviews and assessment centres I attended when applying for placements,” he said.

“The lecturers have been so helpful too. They’re always available to chat over any issues you might have.”

Looking to the future, Harvey has set his sights on securing a place on a graduate scheme, and is certain his experiences at University College Birmingham have equipped him for the task: “Studying here and going on placements has helped me to grow in confidence and see first-hand what I most enjoy doing,” he said.

"The time I spent working in hotels and resorts made me sure that this is where I want to be in my career."
