Providing end of life care
During her studies, Charlene experienced a wide range of work placement opportunities, including gynaecology, respiratory, A&E, district nursing and end of life care working in a hospice.
It was her time working in the hospice that defined her future career path.
Even though Charlene only graduated in 2023, she now holds the position of staff nurse, working within a multidisciplinary team providing palliative and end of life care.
Due to the complexities and specialist care required during end of life care, Charlene hopes to progress to clinical nurse specialist and complete her non-medical prescribing qualification.
“The support I received at University College Birmingham was amazing," she said.
"Our lecturers previously worked in the health sector as specialist nurses, so their knowledge, experience and advice has been invaluable.”
