Events Management BA

A passion for learning and teaching

Abigail began work as a teaching assistant at University College Birmingham in September 2024, but she was already very familiar with her surroundings, and this was one of the major reasons she decided to take up the role. After a period working as an events co-ordinator for the Birmingham Rep Theatre and Library of Birmingham, she was eager to showcase these experiences in the place her journey started.

“Coming back to work at University College Birmingham was a no-brainer for me, as I’d studied for my undergraduate degree here a couple of years previously”, she said.

“I already loved the staff, the campus, and the general environment. Everyone is so friendly and the facilities are amazing. I knew if I was going to teach, this is the place I’d want to be.”

During her studies, Abigail was able to make the most of the University’s industry links and took on several exciting placements. The experience she gained proved invaluable for career as a teacher, and in the field of events itself.

“My advisor from HIRED was really proactive and helpful, and managed to find an opportunity to work on the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. It was the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t turn it down.”

Long eager to combine her two passions, Abigail is happy to be in the place it all started:

"I had always kept two career options in mind - I enjoy working in events, but also I’d thought about teaching as I love sharing my own experiences and helping others to learn. When this job came along it allowed me to combine these interests and gain greater experience at the same time. I'm so glad to be back here!"
