Alison Williams
Senior lecturer of education
Prior to my role as a Senior Lecturer and programme lead for the BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies accelerated programme, I worked for over a decade in primary school settings supporting the learning and teaching of children across the 3-11 age phase. During this time, I developed considerable experience identifying children with additional support needs and implementing specialist support for those with communication difficulties. Developing and maintaining relationships with parents, who were often struggling to come to terms with their child’s difficulties, was crucial to this role. I now teach across a variety of modules on the BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies Accelerated programme, embedding skills of emotional intelligence and cultural competence across all my teaching to equip future graduates to make a difference and to be influential teachers.
Education is crucial to the development of our society and to ensuring a solid foundation from which all children can flourish and contribute.
Studying for a MA in Education will enable you to build on the subject knowledge acquired as an undergraduate and enable you to apply it at an advanced level. You will become more aware of the complexities that surround school communities, how these intersect with the education system and practices within school settings. As active participants in the field, you will be involved in key educational debates whilst developing the skills needed to confidently articulate your knowledge to make an impact in practice. Drawing on contemporary theory and evidence-based practice, you will be taught by a highly skilled team who have a range of school based and education expertise.
At University College Birmingham, we recognise that you already bring a range of experience to the sector. We value your individuality and welcome you to become experts in the education sector.
