Profile

After qualifying as a Registered Dietitian in 1988, I initially practiced in the clinical areas of adult general medicine, surgery, and elderly care. Early on in my career I was fortunate to have clinical opportunities with which to develop my paediatric knowledge and practice skills.

After 16 years of clinical dietetic practice I relocated to Canada where I was registered with the College of Dietitians of Alberta, completed an MSc. in Applied Human Nutrition, developed research skills and worked as a teaching assistant on an undergraduate Nutrition programme.

I returned to the UK 4 years later, to take up a senior lecturer position at Coventry University where I taught on the BSc. Dietetics, MSc. Dietetics & Leadership, and MSc. Public Health Nutrition programmes. Throughout my 15 years at Coventry University I was also the dietetic placement coordinator.

I joined University College Birmingham in November 2023 as the Programme Lead for our new MSc. Dietetics programme, within the School of Health, Sport and Food.

Teaching

I teach across the MSc. Dietetics (Pre-Registration) programme curriculum, and lead on the modules:

  • Science of Human Nutrition
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Clinical Dietetics: The Paediatric Dietitian.

Research interests and scholarly activity

My research interests focus on paediatric nutrition and dietetics, and practice-based learning.
