University College Birmingham welcomes European students

University College Birmingham is aware that EU students may be anxious about the impact of the referendum on their studies and future funding. 

We would like to reassure all current students and those joining the University in 2016-17 that nothing has changed. 

The UK Government has confirmed that “current students and this autumn’s applicants will continue to receive student finance for the duration of their course.” 

A statement from the Student Loans Company said EU students already studying in the UK will not face any changes to financial support, such as loans, to cover tuition fees. The current arrangements will also remain in place for those who have applied to university and are expecting to start courses in the autumn.

There will not be any immediate material change to the UK university sector’s participation in EU programmes such as Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+, nor to the immigration status of current and prospective EU students and staff.

University Guild President Katarzyna Sroka said EU students should be reassured about the future. She said: “In light of the outcome of the EU referendum, we would like to remind you that as a Guild we are here to represent and support all our students. We encourage and welcome a diverse student body, which encompasses home, international and EU students."
