UCB student experience to be enhanced with new virtual learning environment
Read time: approx 1 mins
Students at UCB will soon be able to take better control of their studies thanks to the introduction of a brand new virtual learning environment.
The University has invested in Canvas, an easy-to-use, cloud-based system which brings the best of the web into lessons to enhance teaching and learning. The highly reliable system has a 99.9% uptime guarantee – meaning there’s no lengthy downtime for system upgrades.
Using the latest advances in technology, Canvas enables students to submit assignments online or through the user-friendly mobile app, enjoy instant messaging with others on their course, and select how they want to receive notifications from lecturers.
Students will be able to effectively manage their time with other features, including a dashboard which clearly lists ‘upcoming events’ such as deadlines for assignments, and a quick way of viewing feedback from lecturers using the Canvas app.
Canvas is expected to be launched at UCB in June, replacing the current UCB online system, and training workshops will be held before its introduction to ensure students make best use of the technology available.
Amy Hollier, Director of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (Acting), said it would transform the way students learn. She added: “Canvas provides a much cleaner, more contemporary interface which will engage our students and improve their learning experience. It’s easy to navigate and will enable lecturers to reach students in more creative ways, such as via video chat, or through other integrated media students are familiar with such as social networks.”
