Students hold Enterprise and Innovation Showcase
Read time: approx 1 mins
Students from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events hosted an Enterprise and Innovation Showcase as part of their final year Research Project.
Sixteen students used this opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in researching, planning and delivering an industry or community-related project. Each student presented a business idea, product, service or system that could benefit new or existing businesses in the fields of hospitality, events and tourism.
People in the relevant sectors were invited to talk to them about their projects and the contributions the students think they would make to their chosen organisation. This included representatives from QHotels, Hyatt Birmingham, Premier Inn, London Golf Club and Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
Greg Gannon, lecturer at UCB, said: “This rigorous independent project is an alternative to the traditional undergraduate dissertation and showcased highly original and successful business ideas, products and services.
“The students have integrated key knowledge, skills and learning experiences accumulated throughout their time at UCB. They have shown that they can undertake concentrated research and analyse business ideas and operational issues. Students demonstrated that the knowledge and skills gained at UCB are applicable to business and the wider community and, as a result, received high praise from those in the industry and potential employers.”
Project ideas included a new software application to assist food and beverage training at Hyatt hotels; enhanced communication and leadership training at Premier Inn; a new business initiative to create a woodlands resort in Estonia; redesigning staff resourcing for London Golf Club and enhancing internal communication systems at Premier Inn.
