Lord Mayor welcomes international students to Birmingham
Read time: approx 1 mins
UCB’s new international students were invited to the Birmingham Council house for an official welcome from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Shafique Shah.
Students from every continent were represented, along with exchange students from all over Europe, Australia, the USA and Thailand. It was as a United Nations delegation which was received by the Mayor.
They were then shown into the Birmingham council voting chamber where he then spoke to the students about Birmingham’s history, interesting sights and surroundings nearby as well as his passion for the city and the community. He also answered any questions the students had about his role as Lord Mayor, British politics and general questions about living in Birmingham.
Being able to meet the Lord Mayor of Birmingham is not only a cultural experience for students living outside of the UK, but it also contributes towards making them feel at home and happy to be in our city.
