International Sporting Success for Former UCB BTEC Sport Student.
Katie Stainton more than justified her selection for England Athletics by producing an outstanding performance and winning the women's heptathlon at the Home Countries International competition held in Stoke-on- Trent at the beginning of August.
On her international debut the 18 year old did not let the occasion or level of performance faze her by producing 5 personal best scores across the 7 event competition resulting in a fantastic personal best point score. Katie now heads the national rankings for heptathlon in the under 20's age group and is placed 8th in the national senior rankings.
The 7 events included in the heptathlon are spread over two days of competition with 100m hurdles, high jump, shot and 200m the first day and long jump, javelin and 800m on the second. Katie was in 1st position after the first event and never looked back, consolidating her lead after every event to finish over 400 points ahead of her nearest rival.
The Birchfield Harrier's achievement is made all the more impressive by the fact she only started competing in heptathlon this season after several years of concentrating on the 400m hurdles.
She will be looking to further improve her points score and further justify her position as the best under 20 heptathlete in the country in her next multi-event competition in September when she will compete in the English Schools Combined Events finals at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.
Good luck to Katie from all at UCB.
