University College Birmingham recognises the importance of supporting students with a disability to enable them to travel to study
We are, however limited in the number of disabled parking spaces we have available. Applications will therefore be assessed, and spaces offered on a first come first served basis. Once the applications have been assessed and the University will operate an in-year waiting list. UCB reserves the right to suspend applications if the waiting list vastly exceeds the number of spaces available in year.
Students will not be allocated a given space rather designated spaces are available on a first come served basis. Students will therefore need to allow extra time for such an eventuality and make alternative arrangements should a space not be available.
Criteria
Applications from Blue Badge holders will be given preference. Applications for other conditions will also be considered if they fall under the following criteria*:
- You get the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance.
- You claim Personal Independence Payment because you can’t walk further than 50 metres.
- Your mental health stops you from making journeys because of overwhelming distress.
- You have a permanent and substantial disability, which means you're unable to walk or find it very difficult to walk (you'll need to prove this, and you might have to be assessed by a medical professional, such as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist).

UCB Accessible Permits
How to apply and other conditions
The linked application form will need to be completed, and the required evidence attached - this should include evidence of a valid Blue Badge where applicable. Please note any incomplete application forms will not be processed. Once complete applications will be triaged, and decisions will be communicated by Disability and Neurodiversity Support to Estates within 6 weeks of receipt.
UCB Accessible Permits must be clearly displayed in the assigned vehicle and are not transferable between vehicles. Any failure to adhere to this may result in the improper use penalty being triggered.
As we have multiple sites, designated parking could be at any one of our educational buildings, e.g. Moss House, Camden House, etc. At present, there is no designated student parking at Baskerville House because we do not own the building.
Lost/stolen UCB Accessible Permit and vehicle change
Students should apply for a new UCB Accessible Permit from Estates which will be issued once they have paid a replacement fee at a cost of £10.00.

(Please select replacement permit from the drop-down menu)
Reapplying
If students are granted a UCB Accessible Permit, this will only be valid for the duration noted on the Permit. Students will need to reapply in September of each academic year. Prior allocation of a UCB Accessible Permit does not guarantee continuation e.g. if a student is allocated a Permit in year one there is no guarantee this will continue for the duration of their studies.
Improper use
If there is any improper use of the UCB Accessible Permit, such as sharing with others, or use outside of University hours, then the UCB Accessible Permit will be suspended. The University reserve the right to ticket any vehicles seen to be using permits improperly. If anyone believes that a vehicle is parking in disabled bays without the appropriate UCB Accessible Permit displayed, these concerns should be referred to the Estates Department on 0121 604 1000 ext 2310.
Please note there will be no parking at weekends or overnight.
