Our library services at University College Birmingham are here to provide you with the support, information and study environments you need to achieve your very best.


Our library facilities offer quiet study spaces and computer access, while our library collections include everything from books and newspapers to e-books, electronic journals, multimedia and a range of other e-resources. Our expert staff are also here to help you with advice and support in researching your assignments.

Our library services offer:

  • Online library offering 24/7 access to the full text of more than 150 million digital resources
  • Study spaces with PCs, laptop space and Wi-Fi access through the Eduroam network
  • Expert help from academic librarians and senior library assistants
  • Term time opening until midnight on weekdays, as well as weekend opening

Depending on the type and level of study you are undertaking, there are study spaces in buildings throughout campus, including Baskerville House, Summer Row, McIntyre House and Camden House; find out more here.

Assignment assistance

All students at University College Birmingham can receive support from our expert staff, no matter what level you are studying at or what grades you are achieving.

Our academic librarians are qualified library professionals who can support you with researching your assignments. They deliver sessions in classes and tutorials offering valuable advice on finding information and developing your information-searching skills, which will be vital both during and after your studies.

You can book an appointment to see your academic librarian, or you can visit them as and when you require support. You can also email or phone your academic librarian with subject-specific enquiries. See the library portal for more details.

Further study-based help – such as for understanding assignment briefs, planning work and writing style – is also available from staff at our Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE).

Monday to Friday – 8am-midnight
Saturday – 9am-5pm
Sunday – 12pm-5pm

Please note the library is closed on all bank holidays. We are also closed for a two-week period over Christmas and New Year – exact dates will be available nearer the time. Alternatively, please check the contact us page, where Christmas closure information will be published in December.
